email anneNutritional Therapy is the application of nutrition science in the promotion of health, peak performance and individual care. Nutritional therapy practitioners use a wide range of tools to assess and identify potential nutritional imbalances and understand how these may contribute to an individual's symptoms and health concerns. This approach allows them to work with individuals to address nutritional balance and help support the body towards maintaining health.
Nutritional therapy is recognised as a complementary medicine and is relevant for individuals with chronic conditions, as well as those looking for support to enhance their health and wellbeing.
Practitioners consider each individual to be unique and recommend personalised nutrition and lifestyle programmes rather than a 'one size fits all' approach. They never recommend nutritional therapy as a replacement for medical advice and always refer any client with 'red flag' signs or symptoms to their medical professional. They will also frequently work alongside a medical professional and will communicate with other healthcare professionals involved in the client's care to explain any nutritional therapy programme that has been provided.
Nutritional therapy for disordered eating aims to teach you how food fuels the body and how to manage any dietary demons you may have. You will learn what your body really needs to be healthy, how else to respond to negative emotions than by abusing your body, how to be kinder to your body and how to revaluate the importance of body image. Ultimately, disordered eating nutritional therapy will aim to empower you to make the right decisions when it comes to your diet, lifestyle and body.
While it will take hard work and dedication, our sessions should give you the courage to recover at your own pace, look forward being free of disordered eating behaviours and enjoy what life has to offer.
This type of therapy isn’t just for people with an already diagnosed eating disorder but for anyone whose diet has become disordered. Bear in mind that disordered eating can manifest itself in many different ways from restricting certain types of food, to avoiding social situations where food is involved, eating in secret, etc. Everyone's experience is unique but the aim of therapy is always the same: being healthy while achieving a fluid relationship with food.
Anne Richardson is a registered nutritional therapist (DipION) and is also a Master Practitioner in Eating Disorders and Obesity having obtained a diploma from The National Centre For Eating Disorders (NCFED), approved by the British Psychological Society (BPS).
Anne grew up in France where she embarked on a life-long love of cooking and food. Her teenage years, however, were fraught with confusion and she battled with her weight.
She moved to the UK in her early twenties and made peace her body, which sparked up her interest in food and how it can affect our body and soul. After reading all the nutrition and cookery books she could lay her hands on she realised that food was part and parcel of her life and that she wouldn’t be fulfilled until she did something about it. She therefore decided to quit her job in publishing and re-train for four years at the renowned Institute for Optimum Nutrition (ION) in London where she was trained in the principles of functional medicine, a science-based method that assesses the underlying causes of symptoms.
ION received accreditation from the Nutritional Therapy Council (NTC), which sets standards of training and education that meet the National Occupational Standards for Nutritional Therapy.
After realising that many of her clients displayed an unhealthy relationship with food she decided to further her training at the NCFED and has now specialised in that field.
Anne helps people whose relationship with food has become disordered as well as people who need to lose weight but who are after a more sympathetic approach to food rather than a strict diet. Her approach is based on nutritional and behavioural work. She will help you find your true voice, to allow you to rediscover and appreciate how food is there to be enjoyed and enhance your life.
Anne is a keen cook and likes creating new recipes, which she daily shares on social media.
Master practitioner in Eating Disorders and Obesity (National Centre For Eating Disorders, London)

Anne is a member of BANT (British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine) and CNHC (Complimentary and Natural Healthcare Council), which was set up to protect the public by providing a UK voluntary register of complementary therapists.

She is fully insured and will be more than happy to work alongside your GP as well as other complementary practitioners.
