“Since being fully endorsed by the British Medical Association in 1955, as a legitimate and effective form of therapy, hypnotherapy UK has grown steadily to become a huge success. There is no longer the need to opt for slower forms of therapy, which are often unable to make the changes you require”

What is Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy?, What is a Hypnotherapist? and Does hypnotherapy work?

Hypnosis is a slightly altered state of mind that most of us experience just about every day of our lives, whether we are driving, daydreaming, dropping off to sleep at night, or are simply absorbed in a good book or film.

Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis to give relief and removal of a huge variety of conditions. It is an altered state of awareness induced by relaxation.

A skilled hypnotherapist brings this about by guiding the individual into relaxation, and giving them 'minds eye' situations to imagine and 'experience'.

The conscious & subconscious mind

It does not involve becoming unconscious or going to sleep. The deep relaxation works to calm the conscious mind so that it takes a less active role in your thinking process and your conscious mind takes a backseat to your subconscious mind. You know the bit where you have driven the past few miles and cannot remember it?! That is exactly the same feeling, where the conscious mind wanders off a little and the subconscious mind takes over the driving.

Does hypnotherapy work?

Yes! When in a relaxed state of hypnosis, it allows you and the therapist to utilise your subconscious mind - the powerhouse of your mind. You are fully aware of what is taking place at all times and cannot be made to do anything you do not want to do.

What does hypnosis feel like?

If you can imagine feeling totally relaxed with a heightened awareness of everything going on around you, this is what most people experience. Everyone can be hypnotised and you retain control at all times! It is a wonderfully relaxing experience.

It is also amazing for pain relief and is even used instead of general or local anaesthetic with some surgeons or dentists!  The number of sessions depends on the severity of symptoms but it can be as little as one session.  Even in the most severe cases, it is rare for more than 10-12 weekly sessions to be

There are two types of hypnotherapy:

suggestion hypnotherapy (Clinical Hypnotherapy)

Positive suggestions made to your unconscious mind are highly effective as they bypass the conscious mind and take root in your subconscious mind. They are discharged in activity or thought without conscious effort.   This type of therapy can give instant results for minor problems or short-term goals. For example, only one session with Penny is required to give up smoking! Weight loss is made easy as is pain relief and control. It is used for a huge range of other short-term goals such as exams, driving tests, wedding nerves, hypno-birthing, fear of flying or the dentist, childrens issues etc......

For longer term goals Analytical Hypnotherapy is more beneficial.

'pure' hypno-analysis (analytical hypnotherapy)

Penny practices 'pure hypno-analysis' taught by IAPH (The International Association of Pure Hypnoanalysts) which is a very special type of hypnotherapy, and is one of the best methods in the world for treating emotional, psychological or anxiety-related problems. Pure analytical hypnotherapy is used for people suffering from anxiety, depression, addictions, phobias, panic attacks etc. This takes a few more sessions than suggestion therapy, and allows you to discover the cause and resolution of your current problems helping you to change your life significantly in a short space of time.  If you just take away the symptoms the original cause is still there and either new symptoms or the old ones are likely to return again in the fullness of time.
