Dermal fillers

Facial wrinkles and creases begin to appear as the underlying collagen and elastin fibres begin to break down and wear out after the age of 25. While this breakdown is part of the natural ageing process, it can also result from excessive squinting, frowning, smoking or sun damage.

Dermal fillers give you immediate and visible results, taking years off your face, and leaving your skin smooth and supple. Treatment can be carried out quickly and easily - even during your lunch hour - with no invasive surgery and little recovery time.

Dermal fillers are gels that can be injected into ageing skin to smooth out folds and creases and so restore a youthful appearance.

The skin naturally consists of structural materials that include several types of collagen, plus lubricants such as hyaluronic acid (HA), giving us a firm, toned and youthful skin. As the body ages, the quantity of these critical materials naturally declines, resulting in poorer skin quality.

Injection into the skin of synthetically produced HA and/or natural collagens can restore the skin to a more youthful appearance. They do this by plumping up deep wrinkles and skin folds, making the skin firmer, as well as by building up and sculpting facial contours. These injectable materials are collectively known as dermal fillers.

Today, the most widely used dermal fillers consist of synthetic HA. Their effects are considered to be non-permanent, but they do last 9-12 months. Many different types of filler are in use today, but only some of them deliver consistently safe, effective longterm results, with minimal side-effects. A selection of fillers will be tailored to your needs. These include brand names such as Aliaxin®, Emervel®, Juvéderm®, Radiesse® and Stylage®, all of which Dr Berlinde uses.

  • Fillers are typically used for:
  • Cheek & chin lifting & filling
  • Jowls enhancement
  • Lip enhancement and augmentation
  • Lip creases
  • Nasolabial folds (from nose to mouth0
  • Skin rejuvenation

Lip enhancement and augmentation

Depending on the shape of each person's lips, this treatment consists of enhancement to the outer borders of the lips (the vermilion border), improving definition, giving a more sensual look and reducing lipstick bleed, plus a general increase in the volume of the lips, giving a greater fullness. Dr Berlinde usually uses Stylage Special Lips for this treatment. s

Nasolabial fold

These are the deep folds that run from the side of the nose to the corners of the mouth, one of the first signs of ageing. Correction or softening of these folds gives you a more youthful, fresher look.

Lip creases

These occur with age, and are not just the result of smoking. Softening the depth of these with a dermal filler enhances your face and prevents lipstick seepage.

Enhancement of the jowls

Sagging jowls accentuate the effect of the ageing process. This appearance can be easily corrected by a dermal filler and gives you a smooth jaw line.

Cheek & chin lifting and filling

Fillers are used to restore volume to the chin, cheeks and cheekbones that have become hollow or thin due to weight loss or age-related facial fat loss. Immediately after treatment, you should notice that your facial contours appear fuller and rounder, giving your face a softer, more youthful appearance.

Depending on your course of treatment you may notice a return of the soft, full cheeks, and firm, high cheekbones of youth, a refreshing revolumisation of the face, and a marked return of the smooth jowls and jawline and the firm chin of youth.

And, your results will last: the lifting effects of treatment have been shown to last up to 18 months! Before and after photos
